Slept in a bit today. We are getting the hang of poached eggs in the microwave and toast with the broiler. Yogurt and blackberries ...... and a new fun mix ...... instant coffee enhanced by espresso from our machine! We actually found the instruction booklet for our micro / broiler on line, and that is helping out a bit. I even got google to translate it into English.
After breakfast we headed out to check out the local supermarket. It is three vaporetto stops away (Palanca stop), which is less than 10 minutes. It is called the COOP, and supermarket may not be the right classification. It is a local market about 6 blocks back from the water, but in Venice, and on the island of Guidecca (which this is), a block is often a roundabout discovery. We actually had to use our phone to navigate the narrow streets and turns ...... but finally found it.
But on the way to the market, we took an hour and wandered around the grounds of the Fondazione Cini, which is where we are staying. While the church of San Giorgio Maggiore is what everyone comes to see, there is a private world behind the gates which is run by the Cini Foundation for a variety of cultural and exhibition purposes. The Centro Vittore Branca, which is where we are staying, is one of the primary entities. The following section is a bit heavy with photos ....... be forewarned!
